HISPANIC EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Promoting Educational Excellence for Hispanic Youth and Students

By Victor Pinzon

We congratulate President Bush, as reported by The Washington Post on March 30, 2001, for his pledge of $1.4 billion increase for historically black colleges. President Bush said: "What government can’t do is cause people to love one another. What government can do is encourage faith-based programs and their mission. Government shouldn’t fear faith-based initiatives, we ought to welcome them." President Bush invited 120 black leaders from faith, education, business and political communities. And met with a smaller group of 16. President Bush also asked Attorney General to craft a plan to end racial profiling.

We invite President Bush to consider pledging a similar or higher funding for Hispanic colleges, including exceptional programs such as The Americas Foundation’s "Empowerment –Agents of Change" programs.
