Americas Global Foundation Invitada a GUATEMALA Julio 16 al 23, 2003

Washington, DC, July 25, 2003

I just returned home from my working-visit to Guatemala.

The Guatemalan Indigenous Communities ACADEC and others invited Americas Global Foundation (AGF) to visit their
Communities July 17 to the 23, 2003.
AGF has been working with these and other Guatemalan NGO organizations since 2001.
The visit included an intense agenda each and every day, some days starting as early as 2:00 AM to travel to some far away communities and returning the same day to our base in Chimaltenango.

The purpose of AGF's Guatemala visit was several fold, as it is typical of all our visits to Latin America and other countries:

1. To see firsthand the conditions, infrastructure, limitations, and resources of various Guatemalan Indigenous Communities and to determine other challenges and opportunities
2. To meet with Guatemalan Indigenous Community Leaders, and their constituents; to meet with US Embassy officials (Ambassador, Consul General, etc.), Guatemalan government officials, universities, entrepreneurs, and others; as well as interviews with the media and press conferences
3. To start offering specific solutions to some of the major challenges facing those Guatemalan Indigenous Communities; including housing, education, job and business creation training, increasing their productivity; educational/ economic and civic-political empowerment.
4. To present some of AGF's and ALTEX' programs and services and to encourage Mayors and other Government officials, Guatemalan Indigenous leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, journalists, university students to participate in some of them, such as: our Come to Washington! "Empowerment - Agents of Change" Training and Leadership Development; other Workshops and Training; Bringing Temporary Workers and Interns to Washington and other cities; Introducing the new Debit Card that provides an effective answer to Guatemalans and others Remesas or Remittances; our various other services including seeking and securing funding for their projects, etc.
5. To evaluate establishing an AGF Chapter in Guatemala

The trip was a success in numerous ways. I will provide some details about the exciting developments and opportunities to those of you who desire to join us to get involved in the implementation of our goals not only in Guatemala but throughout Latin America and of course here in the USA.
