Puerto Rico  -Results Business and Information Trip

    San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 2, 2000. The Americas Foundation‘s President Victor Pinzon offered a Press Conference on Monday, May 1, 2000 at the offices of the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association, before returning to Washington, DC.
       
Purpose
    The purpose of the Press Conference was to inform about some of the initial results of the current visit to Puerto Rico of The Americas Foundation. The Foundation had been invited by the Government of Puerto Rico's office in Washington, DC to meet with various Puerto Rico’s entities, officials and individuals of the public and private sectors. The following were some of the specific initiatives proposed to the various officials and organizations with whom Pinzon met::
1. Invite those and other organizations to establish strategic partnerships with the Foundation to join in the implementation of some programs of mutual interest, such as: the Americas Business and Affairs Council, La Casa de las Americas in Washington, Americas Computer Literacy to Work (ACOLTWORK) program, and others.
2. Develop an Internship program with universities and associations, that involve inviting selected university students and young professionals to Washington DC for a two or three months program that will include leadership and network development and a unique working experience with the Foundation and possibly The White House, US Congress, multilateral organizations and other.
3. Offer to coordinate and promote certain business and other opportunities throughout the US and our Hemisphere in different sectors, especially high-tech, tourism and human capital development. Specifically, the Foundation proposed to organize with its new Puerto Rico’s strategic partners an Annual Puerto Rico Congressional, Business Day in Washington, DC.
4. Offer the Foundation’s Hemispheric Forum TV program, its other media channels and relationships in Washington, DC

    The following were some of the entities and officials with whom Pinzon met on this initial visit to Puerto Rico:

Puerto Rico Banking Association, Mr. Arturo Carrion, Executive Vice President
Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association, Mr. William Riefkohl, Executive Vice President
Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company, Mr. Edison Misla Grillasca and Mari Batista
Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Angel Bosch and Holvin Padro Pintado
Ms. Nellie Gorbea, Economic Advisor to Governor Rossello, and Jorge Gonzalez
Economist and Faculty member of InterAmerican University, Dr. Antonio Fernos
Casa de Espana de Puerto Rico, Mr. Jose Santiago, President



    There was common interest on the stated initiatives among all the officials with whom Pinzon met. We agreed to establish a Memorandum of Understanding and then proceed to define the various parameters and components of the proposed programs, and after reaching a final agreement, we will start the implementation of those programs.

    The Foundation thanks Mr. William Riefkohl for his generosity in offering his facilities for the Press Conference,  US Airways for sponsoring the airline travel and ALTEX International Public Relations and Marketing for the logistics and implementation of this business mission trip.



The Government of Puerto Rico invites The Americas Foundation to Puerto Rico

    The Government of Puerto Rico's office in Washington, DC has graciously invited the President of The Americas Foundation, Mr. Victor Pinzon, and is coordinating  his visit to Puerto Rico. The Foundation thanks Mr. Moises Behar, the Sub Director, and Ms. Elizabeth Milan of the Office of the Government of Puerto Rico for their enthusiastic support to the Foundation.


Purpose

The purpose of the trip, according to Mr. Pinzon, is to meet with and inform various entities, officials and individuals of Puerto Rico's public and private sectors about our Foundation's mission and goals, some of our programs and projects and the benefits or services we are ready to offer to them in Washington, DC, such as:

1. Invite their organizations to establish strategic partnerships with our Foundation, to join us in the implementation of some of our programs, such as: the Americas Business and Affairs Council, La Casa de las Americas in Washington, Americas Computer Literacy to Work program, CyberETE Centers and others.
2. Develop an Internship program with universities, associations, etc. to bring university students and professionals to Washington DC for a two or three months program that includes leadership and networking development and a unique working experience.
3. Offer our Hemispheric Forum TV program in Washington, DC at DCTV Cable25 and our future newspaper Hemispheric Forum (planning first edition within 3 months)
4. Offer to coordinate and promote business opportunities throughout our Hemisphere in different sectors, especially high-tech, human capital development, etc.
5. Assist in promoting Puerto Rico's tourism, investment, technology transfer and other opportunities
6. Offer to them our professional public relations and relationships to top decision makers in the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area and throughout our Hemisphere.
7. Offer a press conference during the visit to Puerto Rico
