United We

Washington, DC, February 7, 2000. The Americas Foundation's (TAF) Luis Delgado, George Filippides and Victor Pinzon were received by US Congressman Thomas M. Davis and his staff assistant, Mr. Hector de Leon, on this date.
The purpose of the meeting was to explore
certain issues, to offer some proposals and invitations to Congressman Davis related to
the impact of the Hispanic community and Latin America in the Metropolitan Washington Area
and the US.
Congressman Davis represents Virginia's 11th District. He is member of the House of
Representatives Committee on Government Reform where he serves as Chairman of the
Subcommittee on the District of Columbia, is member of the Government Management,
Information and Technology Subcommittee and is also a member of the House Commerce
Committee. In November 1998, Congressman Davis was elected by the House Republican
Conference as Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee for the 106th
Congress.
Specifically Pinzon invited Congressman Davis to:
1. Be an Honorary Cochair of the new TAF's Americas
Business and Affairs Council.
2. Be an Honorary Founding Member of La Casa de
las Americas in Washington.
3. Be interviewed in our Hemispheric Forum TV program
at a date to be determined.
4. Participate in one of our Business Mission trips to
certain Latin American countries to promote
international trade, tourism,
investments, high-tech, specially with Northern Virginia, the
District of Columbia, and Maryland.
Additionally, Pinzon respectfully requested Congressman Davis his assistance to
help TAF:
1. To open the door, in TAF's unsuccessful efforts for the last
five years, in the District of Columbia
with Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and
Mayor Anthony Williams. TAF has been advocating
equal opportunities, equal access to,
representation of Hispanics at top levels. Also to secure
resources for certain Hispanic NGOs of
the District of Columbia to implement the needed
outreaching to and empowerment of
Hispanics, including TAF's efforts to promote Washington,
DC in Latin America, the
Caribbean, Spain and Portugal.
2. In securing some seed resources for TAF's Americas Computer
Literacy Training To Work,
ACOLTWORK, program.
Congressman Davis, at the
meeting, graciously agreed to accept each and all the four TAF's
invitations and to assist TAF in the two issues requested as stated above.
