Permanent Solution for Immigrants
Washington, DC, January 2, 2002. Americas Global Foundation (AGF) advocates for a permanent solution to all immigrants residing in the United States without proper documents. Every immigrant in such status who has been working for in the United States and do not have any other pending legal problems should be given a working visa and the opportunity to obtain a permanent resident visa.
After this is resolved and starting right away a well managed immigration policy should be properly and effectively enforced.

TPS for Colombians and other Immigrants
Washington, DC, June 2, 1999. The Americas Foundation, TAF, strongly supports the Temporary Protection Status, TPS, for Colombians and all other immigrants to the United States on special asylum circumstances. There are numerous meritorious, solid and valid reasons why this status should be granted to those persons that in the process could contribute in various ways to start bringing the long awaited solution to the instability of their countries.

TPS is a temporal amnesty granted by the US Immigration and Naturalization Service to immigrants, whose countries are in a state of war or have been affected by natural disasters, as the case of Honduras and Nicaragua with Mitch Hurricane in 1998.

The approval index for political asylum granted to Colombians reached 40% in fiscal 1999. This figure is more than double the rate of the previous year, which was 19% in 1998, according to INS official, Daniel Kane. The fiscal year ends in September.

The asylum status is granted to persons who fear persecution due to their political opinion, race, religion, nationality, or participation in social groups.

The Department of State announced last Thursday, July 29 that it will not recommend that the TPS be granted to Colombians.

TAF, as an advocacy nonprofit, nonpartisan, think-tank NGO, has a strategic plan to contribute to accomplish this just and fair goal for those persons in desperate need.

We encourage those individuals and entities interested in this issue to join, support, contribute resources, participate, donate to help us accomplish this goal. TAF seeks to continue establishing strategic alliances with groups around the country and other countries on this and other issues.

And, remember: United We prevail!
