Younger Workers Connect More
Age, education and income are among the
factors influencing the amount of time a worker spends using a computer on the job,
according to a recent study.
Younger workers tend to use the computer and Internet more than older employees, the study
found.
Income levels also is a significant factor, with workers earning less income less likely
to use computers and the Internet than those in higher income brackets, concluded the
study conducted by the University of Connecticut and Rutgers University.
Of workers earning less than $40,000 a year, 57 percent use a computer during their
workday, while 77 percent of workers who earn more than $40,000 a year use a computer on
the job.
In education, the higher the level, the greater the likelihood of an employee using a
computer during the workday. there is a dramatic increase in computer use, the study says,
once workers receive education beyond high school.
Just 40 percent of workers with some high school, and 49 percent of high school graduates,
use a computer at work. But 71 percent of workers with some college experience, and 90
percent of college graduates, reported using a computer for at least part of their
workday.
The study was based on more than 1,000 telephone interviews in January with adult workers
throughout the US.
