Environmental, Economic, and Social Program
TEAK PLANTATION PROGRAM

Seeking Matching Funds, Investors, Joint Venture Partners....College Education Fund/Retirement... Wonderful Benefits!

Brief description of the project

Americas Global Foundation seeks to establish a commercial forestry plantation of teak trees, planting a total of two (2) million trees in Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, or other South or Central American country. The first project is to be replicable either with teak and or other carefully considered specific species.

The proposed forestry project will provide substantial benefits: environmental, greenhouse gas sequestration, oxygen emissions, hope and opportunities to the local rural population, new jobs, training, education, health services, and micro-business development assistance to the local population.

Additionally, it will be a commercial -highly financially rewarding- sustainable project.

We have various sites under consideration, and we will select the site for the plantation which will meet the long list of specific requirements needed by a successful teak plantation as it relates to the soil, elevation, moisture, temperature, and other conditions to assure a high degree of tree growth and wood of commercial quality. The latest state-of-the art technology in seedlings, meristematic techniques and other, planting, management and plantation care will be utilized to assure high quality and mature teak trees within ten to twelve years from the time of their planting.

The 2 million trees would be planted during the first three to five years. The cutting of commercially mature trees will commence on the tenth to twelve years. The Foundation plans a sustainable teak plantation, hence planned cutting and replanting will continuously take place every year, starting after the first cut. The annual cuttings are planned to be approximately 10 % of the plantation tree population.

There will be no significant revenues from the teak tree plantation until the first tree cut, projected to occur in the tenth to twelfth years. Thus, the project requires an on-going cash and resources input during the first twelve years. The initial investment plus the annual operational expenses for the first ten to twelve years must be available or committed at the corresponding funds disbursement times. The projected total investment through the twelfth year is estimated to be $15 million.

The projected annual revenues from the annual trees cut, starting on the tenth to twelfth year, will be substantial, even at the conservative price per tree assumed in our financial projections. Cutting about 10 % of the tree plantation population every year will produce revenues of more than two to three times the total initial investment plus the total operational expenses outlaid during the first ten to twelve years. Thus, our teak plantation’s investors will receive substantial cash returns annually, once the annual cutting begins.

"Forests around the world are in crisis. They are disappearing at an alarming rate. Over 40 million acres of tropical forests, or more than one percent of the total, disappears every year."

"Forests are vital for all life on Earth. They purify the air we breathe, are home to countless species of plants and animals, protect important water systems, and provide wood, medicines, and other valuable products. Forests also combat the greenhouse effect." as stated by the World Wildlife Fund.

Tropical forests are the lungs of the world, essential for recycling carbon dioxide into oxygen. Mounting evidence shows that they are essential for the regulation of climate and atmosphere.

Forests are essential to hold rainwater and release it slowly, thereby reducing erosion of fertile soils downstream and making clean water available for drinking and irrigation even during times of drought.

Tropical forests are the largest single source of biological diversity in the world, and the protection of biodiversity is important to all the world’s economy. According to the World Resources Institute (WRI). 4.5% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product is due to economic benefits from wild species. Even if the resource is found far from our shores, these plants and animals matter to millions of Americans. most of the species found in the tropical forests have not even been catalogued as yet.

Goal The Foundation seeks matching funds to finish the feasibility study and project funding to start the establishment of a Teak trees plantation. 2 million trees will be planted in an area of about 2,900 Hectares.

Amount Sought The Foundation seeks matching developmental funds or resources in the amount of $750,000. The Foundation and the principals have invested to date over $650,000 and will continue investing to successfully establish and manage the Teak plantation.

Use of Funds The matching funds or resources received will be used in the following areas:
Consultants and experts fees Feasibility study
Travel

Site evaluation and soil studies
Laboratory equipment and materials Fees and other research
Contingencies

Why Plant Teak The proposed project: 1. Will contribute to substantially preserve and improve the ecology of the region. 2. Will create hundreds of new jobs. 3. Is an economically sound and solid business program. 4. Has been designed to offer a substantial social component directed to provide desperately needed opportunities to benefit the local rural community, including: school for children, training for adults, employment, health family services, consulting services to adults to develop micro business helping them with marketing and financing their fledgling businesses. 5. Offers a sound, self-sufficient, long-term secure and peaceful alternative solution to the lives and future of the local rural community.

The Foundation, non-profit sponsorship of the project provides the basis for contributions and  donations of funds and resources, international cooperation, and the assurance in the planning, implementation and administration of the social program of the project. The social component includes: school for children, training for adults, employment, health family services, consulting services to adults to develop micro business helping them with marketing and financing their fledgling businesses.
Financial The Foundation projects that the investment and operational costs of the establishment of the teak plantation will be about $15 million US dollars. The rate of return to the investors will be about $1 million dollars over the 10th to the 30th years on an initial investment of $15,000 per share. The technique being considered, subject to further research will allow the trees to mature within 10 to 12 years. The seedlings technique considered is meristimetic reproduction or clonal. The 1994 international Teak prices were about $1,000 per cubic meter with an annual increase of about 8%.

One Teak tree produces on the average 2 cubic meters of wood.
Characteristics Scientific name: Tectona Grandis of the Verbenaceus family.
Origin: India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina.
In Latin America: Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama.
Tree Height: over 30 meters. Tree Stem: straight Tree Top: round shape
Bark: rough, coarse Roots: very powerful Fiber: uniform, hard
Leaves: Large, oval, brilliant green color; 80% of them fall during the dry season. Natural Ambiance: dry tropical regions Resistance: Teak is highly fire resistant due to high silicate content; it is also resistant to humidity, acids, fungus and insects. Specific Weight: about 70 grams per cubic centimeter. Teak is extremely resistant to inclement weather due to its oil content. Teak is one of the few woods used in ship building, docks or maritime facilities. Teak is also highly desired for furniture, floors, etc. Its beauty and easy maintenance makes teak woods highly sought in world markets.
